Our country was founded on the principle of citizen leadership. Today, however, elected leaders often are professional politicians, which is why I support term limits for members of the Legislature.

However, term-limiting professional politicians will not be effective without also limiting tenures of professional bureaucrats. These include heads of state administrative agencies who hold significant power over taxpayer dollars, but are unelected and unaccountable. Therefore, I believe we should:

  • Set term limits for members of the Texas House at 12 years
    (6 two-year terms).
  • Set term limits for members of the Texas Senate at 12 years
    (3 four-year terms).
  • Limit heads and upper-level management at state administrative agencies to no longer than 12 years at any one agency.
